Day No. (The amount of musical fazes that left women faint at concerts).

So today there wasn’t much job-searching to be done, I didn’t get much time today because work was very busy . I know I should of and will probably look after this I post this. I wanted to talk about something else and that is the power of saying yes. There are two reasons I believe in the power of saying yes and the first is that in work you should take any opportunity that is going to develop you, obviously with some thought but nevertheless throwing yourself in the deep end leads to less regrets and more satisfying moments of learning or pure satisfaction depending on the outcome. Secondly I am a firm believer that if you give out positive energy you will receive positivity back. Because of this when people at work ask me to do things, 10% of the time, I will say yes. Now I say 10% because that 90% is for when I physically don’t have time to fulfil what someone is asking which I’d say is 5% of this 90% and the other times is because I say ‘I won’t do it for you, I will show you how to do it so from then on you can do it yourself’, this is for two reasons the first being to be positive and try help people to better themselves and work more efficiently. And the other being that they aren’t likely to ask you again because you’ve already showed them and if they do you can bring up the fact you’ve already showed them to really bring it home with them and make them understand they should of been listening. People can be lazy and if they think they can ask you to do something and you’ll do it every time, they’ll ask you every time. This isn’t helping both parties only one. It goes along with the old saying, ‘give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats every night’.

Anyway so I try to be as helpful and positive as I can when it comes to people needing my assistance, and sometimes you get positive things back. Something like that happened today, I got a phone call from an event organiser who I was going to run a stall for at her event next week. She said that someone had dropped out last minute and they needed someone to do a 20 minute long presentation to fill in. My first word was ‘Yes’, what a great opportunity for me I thought. This was a very shoot first and ask questions later moment, because then I started asking questions. In the end I found out I could present on anything I wanted to 120 people. I’d never presented to more than 60 people and that was in a group. But I said to myself, ‘you’re not saying no, you’re not backing out, you’re going to do this’. The way I see it is that with a lot of preparation I can nail this presentation and get my name out there even more to help me in my quest for the next step in my career. All outcomes point to a winning situation, as long as I nail the presentation. Looking for work isn’t just about applying through ‘normal avenues’ it can be about putting yourself out there and showing the brilliance you know you possess.

So I write this post with a few thoughts, the first being the power of saying yes but using your integrity with it. The next thought being taking opportunities is a good thing, you have to throw yourself in the deep end to learn how to stay afloat. And my last thought is work hard and good things will come, people will notice.

My title is in reference to two musical artists/groups. The first being The Beatles, no explanation needed. The second is in reference to Franz Liszt, a not so typical classic composer, people claim he is ‘the worlds first rockstar’. He performed all over Europe in the 19th century and really knew  how to get the crowd going, obviously.

Day No. (How many times a warship has been captured by cavalry)

So its been 584 hours since I finished my apprenticeship, why hasn’t an FTSE 100 company offered me a job yet. It seems like a long time but actually it hasn’t because the 584 hours I’ve spent looking for my next step I haven’t really been doing it properly and that is what needs to change and why I’m writing this blog, to keep me focussed. So just to put some context behind the apprenticeship I’ve done, I still work where I did it. Its not an apprenticeship where it is a fixed contract, I have stayed on after and resumed some of the average employees duties.

Today is important because it is a turning point, because I have started this blog and will be doing things differently. Change is a simple thing really, you either do or you don’t. Some things that change you have a choice in like what new car you are going to buy or a new hairstyle. Other changes you have no say and you can either spend your time fighting it or adapting to it. A great video to explain this is on the next link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOUeHPS8A8g . I would recommend watching it, I know its long but definitely worth the watch.

So change, I am going somewhere with this. Change is important in my situation as I have seen what doing nothing about change does, you end up like 80% of colleges who have spent most of their working lives in my office doing similar tasks everyday. This could be me if I wanted to, steady wage and a secure job. And for some people this is what they want to do, and if so then great, you do you. But me I want better, I want to strive for greatness.

So my first step on my path to greatness is, get out of my office and my job and go somewhere different, new and better. And most importantly, embrace change. I haven’t just had an epiphany over night and come to this conclusion, I’ve learnt it and learnt from it. The difference now is, I’m stepping it up a gear.

In reference to the title, its one. In 1795 it was so cold that a Dutch fleet anchored off the Island of Texel and was frozen in the water during the French Revolutionary War. This allowed the French to capture 14 ships through attacking the ships on horse back. This has never happened since.

The Journey Begins

After finishing my A-levels in 2016, I didn’t want to go to University as personally I didn’t see it as my future. This isn’t because I didn’t think Uni was important or invaluable. I thought for me, it wasn’t right. Instead I opted for a different route that more and more young people are taking every year, an apprenticeship. I knew in myself I didn’t like exams and revising, not that anyone does, but I didn’t like learning in that kind of environment. In primary school, in year 5, we did a VAK learning styles quiz. VAK means Visual, Audio and Kinesthetic and the test describes the way you learn best. This was a very basic quiz but my outcome was Kinesthetic, I learned by doing and I whole-heartedly agreed and still do. So an apprenticeship where I’d be doing all the time, with a bit of audio and visual based learning was the perfect environment for me. Learning is very important and I will always stand by that, I wish I just learnt it earlier on in life.

Now this blog I have started is nothing to do with my apprenticeship, I finished that last month. This blog is about welcoming anyone on my journey of finding what I really want to do in life and inspire others that they can do the same. Through the next how ever long it takes, I am going to look for a job that is going to be the next step in my career. And is there is one thing I have learnt from my current job is that ( I think needs putting in bold) in order to change your own circumstances you have to do it yourself , nothing complex or spiritual in that lesson, only the pure fact that change comes from within. If you don’t like something, do something about it.

The area I did my apprenticeship in, I don’t really want to stay in, it’s not for me. I have some regrets about choosing it but when I think about my own journey so far, reflecting back, regrets aren’t good as you don’t get time back. So its time to deal with it and move on.

Just in advance I apologise if I’m cheesy, have bad grammar at times or do say anything you don’t agree with. The great thing about the internet is that there is a button in the top right corner that makes it all go away, when its coupled with resilience and self-discipline not to go back and look at what you don’t want. So just remember that.
